Breaking down barriers to CPTD compliance in South Africa

CPTD-Online started with a simple question: Why are so many teachers in South Africa struggling with CPTD compliance, even when they genuinely want to comply?

What the research showed was not a lack of commitment from teachers, but rather a flawed system that causes unnecessary pressure.

Teachers are often expected to leave their classrooms, travel long distances, and pay out of their own pockets to meet CPTD requirements. And even after doing all of that, many found that the points they earned remained on the certificate alone.

CPTD-Online was built to remove these obstacles.

By bringing accredited CPTD courses online, teachers no longer have to leave their classrooms, travel, or spend money just to remain compliant.

They also have freedom of choice with a growing library of 36 SACE-accredited courses across five focus areas encompassing Classroom, Staffroom, Community, Personal, and Financial wellbeing.

Once a course is completed, the points are automatically uploaded to the teacher’s SACE profile, removing yet another hurdle frequently encountered in the CPTD process.

As the platform developed, however, our research showed that CPTD compliance alone is not enough.

Teaching is a profession that carries real financial pressure alongside emotional and professional responsibility.

Yet, Financial Wellbeing is often left out of formal support structures.

To help teachers in this important area of their lives, CPTD-Online joined hands with Riscofin BlueStar, authorised by Sanlam, to bring practical, factual, and credible financial advice to the nation’s educators.

This partnership allows teachers to access CPTD-Online at zero cost.

All they have to do is see a Riscofin Financial Planner for a one-on-one meeting as well as complete a Navigating Life’s Changes questionnaire.

The purpose of this offer is to introduce teachers to the concept of financial planning, and its importance when it comes to life’s major transitions, in a comfortable environment.

The South African Council for Educators is the governing body responsible for maintaining professional teaching standards. SACE requires every registered educator to earn Continuous Professional Teacher Development points.

What this means for you

We simplify this process. When you complete a course on CPTD-Online, your points are automatically submitted to SACE through our Ithuthuku submission partner so you never need to upload them manually.
